The Mourning Cloak spends its winter in the pupal stage, as a chrysalis attached to a twig. With its spiny protuberances and shades of grey and brown that change as it matures, it resembles a curled dead leaf and stays expertly hidden until emerging as an adult in the spring.

Soft enamel, double-posted, silver metal. Measures 1.125 inches tall. Originally from our November 2023 Bug Box.
