Nearly everyone loves the Monarch butterfly, but caterpillars and milkweed could use more advocates. With this life-sized pin, you can share the color, joy, and fascinating life story of North America’s most beloved insect.

The Monarch caterpillar’s bold and iconic pattern warns would-be predators of their toxicity and bad taste. It only eats milkweed plants, and builds up a store of poisonous  cardiac glycosides to protect it for the rest of its life. A bird that eats a caterpillar full of these toxins will likely avoid this species, and anything with similar colors.

Of course, you probably aren’t thinking about a snack when you look at this caterpillar - but it’s a real treat to wear and display. This darling pin, from our very first Bug Box, perfectly wearable and lovable for fans of all things Monarch.

Measures 1.75” wide. Double posted, soft enamel + epoxy. Unnumbered.
