Like other damselflies and dragonflies, the Ebony Jewelwing begins life underwater. Juveniles (called naiads) voraciously hunt small prey like mosquito larvae and tiny fish, until they grow large enough to surface and molt a final time into their flying adult form.

Females have iridescent gold-green and violet-brown bodies and white spots on their brown or black wings. Males have even flashier blue-green bodies, sometimes with violet tones, and perform courtship displays and dances for females.

This bold, modern woven patch features a male damselfly in flight. Iron on HIGH.

Originally from the Ebony Jewelwing Bug Box (August Box A).
